About

A small company, deliberately.

We are not trying to be the biggest plumbing outfit in St. Louis. We are trying to be the one you call back.

The hallway of an older home with oak floorboards and a cast-iron radiator, low sun across the floor.

Why we work this way

The bill at the end.

Almost every complaint about this trade comes down to one thing. Not bad work — a number that appeared at the end of the job and could not be argued with, because nobody had written anything down at the start.

An hourly rate makes that inevitable. It quietly rewards whoever works slowest, and it asks a customer standing in a wet basement to estimate how long a job they cannot see will take. So we do not bill that way. We look at the work, write down what it costs, and that number is the number.

It means we occasionally lose money on a job that turns out worse than it looked. That is our problem, not yours, and it is the price of being able to say the sentence in the first place.

You get the price before we start, not after we finish.

What we will not do

The short list.

Worth stating plainly, because most of these are common enough in the trade that people assume them.

No

Charge by the hour

The price is for the job. How fast we are is our business.

No

Add an after-hours surcharge

Three in the morning costs what ten in the morning costs.

No

Sell you a sewer line off a hunch

If we say the lateral has failed, you will be looking at the camera screen when we say it.

No

Use chemical drain openers

They do not clear a real blockage and they damage older cast iron.

No

Quote a range and bill the top of it

A range is not a quote. You get one number.

No

Take a job we would do badly

Gas fitting, septic and wells are not ours. We will point you at someone.

Credentials

Licensed where it counts.

Missouri licenses plumbers at city level, not state level. Anyone advertising a Missouri state plumbing licence is describing something that does not exist — worth knowing when you are comparing quotes.

Dispatch

Something leaking right now?

A person answers, day or night. If water is moving, call — that is always faster than a form.
